Collaboration

As rapid changes in technology advance and allow never-before opportunities in music-making the successful 21st-century musician must learn to adapt and make the most of his or her new music workplace.

With distance no longer being an obstacle many new collaborations are made possible without the need for travel.

One such collaboration has been with Andrew.

Andrew Oh – Walk In Fields of Gold

Here is our rendition of Sting’s Fields Of Gold.

The beautiful Fields of Gold composed by Sting and performed here on Slide Dobro by Brian Hayes, Nylon String Acoustic Guitar by Mike Hayes, and Concert Flute and Roland Aerophone EWI by Andrew Oh.

The Maton Guitar Story

Those super alert guitar players watching this video will notice that I’m playing a nylon string guitar.

I totally understand if you do not believe the following story, I’m still having trouble believing it myself!

Here goes …

A short time ago a student by the name of Ken Simpson asked if I had ever regretted selling any of my guitars. The answer is yes, I now regret selling each and every one.

However, there was one, in particular, I did especially miss.

Ken asked me which one was it and I said it was a Maton C-25 nylon-strung guitar.

I thought nothing more of it until a few weeks later, Ken arrives with two guitar cases, one under his arm because the handle was broken, and proceeded into the studio.

The case with the broken handle did somehow look familiar.

He said to open up the case … to be honest before I opened the case I had a strong feeling I knew what was inside … well, my hunch was right … I just couldn’t believe it … it was my Maton C-25 that I had sold 35 years ago!

A new set of strings and two weeks later that’s the guitar on the video.

The moral of this story … magic does happen.

Thanks, Ken, I couldn’t have done this without you.

Before we go any further let’s have another track from Andrew.

And I think you will agree it doesn’t get much better than that.
