Before we dive in and look at the best way to accelerate your progress on the guitar I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself.

Hi, I’m Mike Hayes a local Gympie guitar teacher.

If you are a local yourself you most likely have heard about me already and you would certainly know what a great place Gympie region is to live.

If you are new to the area it might be useful to know a little bit about my background.

Playing and teaching guitar is all I have ever done.

From being a backing musician for performers such as Award-winning TV entertainer and recording artist John McSweeney and Ray Kernaghan (Lee Kernaghan’s father).

Early Days

On my own journey, I have had benefited from a number of outstanding teachers /players.

The player/teacher aspect is a very important ingredient for success as you will learn shortly.

My first teacher was Bunny Hodgins.

Bunny’s lessons were always inspiring – it’s difficult to express in words the impact of these had on a 13year old kid.

It’s a rare situation where passion meets opportunity in a nurturing environment.

These were not your typical dead boring lessons where the half-asleep teacher never picked up an instrument whilst insisting that the student endure endless pages of mind-numbing exercises.

No sirree, I swear there were sparks jumping from Bunny’s Banjo – every lesson was a performance.

Apart from the inspiration, Hodgins also provided me with tools I would next for the rest of my life.
